Shall we sit?

Have you heard of Serena and Lily? Well if not, please don't let me be the one to get you started. I would easily own everything they sell. Our old island used to also be our table and since we changed all that I needed a new table and chairs. And Serena and Lily happened to have exactly what I wanted for chairs. Shocking.

But 4 chairs including shipping was going to be about $750. Sorry, I don't think so. So I went straight to craigslist and I must admit I got lucky. Here's what I found for $20/chair

Eat your heart out Serena and Lily.
Poor people are resourceful

I found the grandma chic table at a thrift store recommended by my interior designer friend, Teresa over at Wavy Glass Interior Design, for $20. She works for me for beer so I like her. I take all her advice because she's always right. I know what I like but have a helluva time making up my mind on how to bring it all together. She knows how to handle me, so I like her for that too. But she didn't bite on this table.

Actually her exact word was "yuck". I was so sad because I was going to have to ignore her. The top is formica. My first thought was to take that off and put a veneer on instead. I wish I would have taken the time to have a second thought because gluing on veneer is a bitch. Joe even helped me roll and clamp it all, but alas it was a bubbly wreck. When I finally did get to a second thought it was to reface it with a piece of plywood. I was shocked and pissed to find out that oak plywood was half the price of the veneer :( Lesson learned and moved on. Again with the help of Joe and a router, we got this

I stained the top a dark brown and changed out the legs for hairpin legs I got on etsy and voila!

All together now
