Friend Birthday Parties

Fred is turning 5 next week and we are having our first "friend" birthday party. Seems as though everyone else has decided that the 5th birthday is the one they are going to attempt this with as well.

Tonight we went to Chuck E Cheese for one of his preschool classmates. Shoot me in the fucking face. I don't really like other peoples' kids. Especially when there are hundreds of them in the one place that is the equivalent of crack to a kid. Not to mention my kid has an extreme phobia of people dressed up in costumes that cover their face. When he sees someone in costume, he runs around flailing his arms and screaming, desperately looking for somewhere to hide. I'm guessing Disneyland would be his definition of hell. Pretty sure he'd never look at Mickey the same again. Needless to say the mouse didn't go over well. Even the band freaked him out. We had to convince him they were robots and were NOT going to leave the stage.

We have another one to go to this weekend. Unfortunately I have to work. So Joe will be in charge of this one. It's at a park, so unless someone decides to dress up like a mascot, he should be good.

I have a hard time with the present aspect of the whole situation as well. I don't know these kids, or the parents, so how the hell am I supposed to know what to get? I just went up and down the aisles at Target and looked for something under 20 bucks. I originally set my budget for each kid at $10 but experienced a quick reality check there.

We are having the party at our house and hoping it's not 1000 degrees. I looked into having it at one of those jump house places but they wanted $200 for a 2 hr party! And that was the "basic" package. Bend over! I could spend up to $500 if I was so inclined. I'll pass thanks. So we decided instead to split the difference and get him an actual trampoline for his birthday. "Hopefully nobody breaks a leg" -- my Mom.
